Course Descriptions

 

Program Goals:

The UB IT program strives to develop graduates who:

 1.      Are able to work efficiently and independently.

 2.      Are well suited for further training at the graduate level or to pursue specialized certifications.

 3.      Have familiarity based on hands-on experience with a broad range of the dimensions of technology, including physical machinery, programming, software design, analysis, and human interfaces.

 

Program Objectives: 

 Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program at the University of Belize will be able to:

 1.      Analyze, from a technological perspective, the problems and needs of organizations, applying logical, critical, and creative thinking.

 2.      Design, develop, and implement effective technological solutions selected from a broad range of options.

 3.      Learn continuously throughout their career, staying current with emerging technologies and practices.

 4.      Have a broad range of technology skills, sufficient to work independently.

 5.      Have well developed collaboration skills, sufficient to work effectively in teams.

 6.      Communicate effectively.

7.      Implement technology solutions that reflect sound ethical principles and social responsibility.

8.      Be able to apply their hands-on experience to analyze, design, develop and implement technological solutions.

Student Profile:

 

A candidate for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program at the University of Belize should meet the university’s application criteria for entering Associates and Baccalaureate programs.  Candidates should display proficiency by earning a minimum of a C+ in English, Math and IT or English, Math and Science. 

Graduate Profile:

A graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program at the University of Belize is:  

  1. Able to operate effectively with and upon a body of knowledge of sufficient depth to begin professional practice in Information Technology.

  2. Prepared for life-long learning in pursuit of personal development and excellence as an IT professional.

  3. An effective problem solver capable of applying logical, critical and creative thinking to a range of problems.
  4. Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively as an IT professional.
  5. Committed to ethical action and social responsibility as a citizen.
  6. Able to communicate effectively in professional practice and as a member of the community.
  7. A professional citizen who has global perspectives.
